What is Ascension Epoch?
Why this tale of superheroes and adventure is so unique
Ascension Epoch is a series of heroic adventure fiction by Michael DiBaggio and his wife Shell Presto. It is set in a world where history turned out differently due to the emergence of superpowered people called Talents in the mid-19th century, as well as a Martian invasion in the opening years of the 20th. The result of all this is that the world is not dominated by large, powerful states; instead, it is covered in smaller countries which maintain their independence due to Talents allowing even small military forces to punch above their weight.
This is not the world outside your window. It makes no sense for a world full of people who can throw cars or spin up hurricanes to have the same issues and conflicts as the real world. This is true speculative fiction, imagining a world where things are different from what we know, yet familiar in other ways.
Unlike most intellectual properties, Ascension Epoch is released under a Creative Commons-Attribution-Sharealike (CC-BY-SA) license. This means that people are free to use all aspects of the IP (stories, art, etc.) in their own work, even commercially, as long as they credit the original creators and release their own work under the same terms.
